12mpg is about right for a 3:55. I get 11.4 with the 318_5sp_v8. You dont
have to remove the pumpkin cover, count the turns of the drive line to find
out what ratio you have.

Subject: DML: 3:55 // 3.92

When I ordered my 98 Dakota in July of 1997. I was told I could only get
Sure Grip (Posi) and the towing package with the 3.92 rear end. So, I was
expecting a 3.92 rear end. When the truck was finally built and delivered
in December the window sticker listed a 3.55 rear end.

Does anyone know how to tell which rear end I have? (Other than removing
the transfer case cover and counting.)

I would like to know for piece of mind. I would feel better about my 12
MPG, if I found out that I have a 3.92 rear.
