Mike, I've had similar experiences with my headers (Doug Thorley). The y
pipe was touching the lower control arm bracket on the passenger side. I
was almost to the point of pulling the y pipe and using a hammer to make a
small dimple in it so it would not rattle. But fortuanately I didn't have
to. What I have been able to do is a little unorthodox but so is tapeing a
hundred pieces of yarn onto your hood eh Jon S.? ;-) What I did was loosen
my exhaust clamps in the rear of the truck. Then I used a come-a-long and
anchored it into a hole in the frame rail and connected the cable onto the Y
pipe. Then I cranked it up a bit to get a little clearence (not a lot of
pressure just a little) then I tightened all the exhaust clamps as tight as
I could get them. I removed the come-a-long and voila! No more rattle.
The y pipe slipped back a little but not quite enough to touch the frame
again. Right now I have maybe 1/8th of an inch clearance but it is just
enough.

Before that I tried using some header wrap to use as a pad between the pipe
and the frame (like Jeff's idea). It worked for about 3 blocks and the
header just rubed a hole in the stuff. I don't know what Jeff is sending
you but I don't think it will be a permanent fix. It may work for a short
while, but the vibration will just eat through most things.

Anyway good luck!
