$400 was the price for a Dodge dealer to do it. $116 for the parts.
They're mopar parts, which normally I would love, but I don't want
another 50,000 mile timing chain. I found a reputable shop that will do
it for $328--and give the same warranty as the dealer. They said that
if it had the sprockets that tended to chip (some type of plastic
maybe??) that they would drop the oil pan and clean it for me too. They
would use solid steel sprockets as replacements. They say it's about a
five hour job---and I'm assuming that's if you know what you're doing.
So, I figure it'll be worth it to me, if it actually fixes the noise, to
have it done by someone else, warranty included. Anybody else had the
timing chain replaced?
