RT Winter Driving

For those of you watching the news, you might have seen/heard
about the 7 illegal imigrants that died in the mountains east of
San Diego last night....

Well, after I went to the movies last night, my wife and I wanted to
go see the 'record' snowfall, so we headed up towards Alpine (which
is around 2800', and RARELY gets snow). Drove the CC RT, and once
we got there, the infamous 'DING' goes off, signaling another tank of
gas gone by.... So we stop, and $30.74 later we get back on the highway
headed east.... as soon as we hit 3000', there's about 3-4 inches of snow
on the shoulder of the road, and all over the surrounding mountains.
We continued on towards Pine Valley (3900') and drove down the snowy
roads, some of which were unplowed with about 6-8 inches of snow....
The RT had no problem with traction, and I tried a few times to spin
the tires, to get a feel for when it would spin. They would spin easily,
but light pressure on the gas pedal would get you anywhere we needed
to go. On the return to the freeway, I was driving down a semi-steep
portion of the road at about 25 mph.... with the brakes on, the 4 w abs
kicked in (an icy section)... and the truck slowed down without a problem,
and I made the turn without sliding/spinning.... I was pretty impressed
overall
how well it performed. My '95 was driven up there a few years back, and I
had
a heck of time moving and stopping..... The additional weight, wider tires
(which
doesn't seem right), and 4 w abs make a hugh difference.
