Well, if they richened the fuel mixture it would cool it out. Also, if he
did stuff to increase air flow, it was already running a little lean. But
yes, retarding the timing would help stop pinging. That isnt always bad,
it may be just at low rpms that it is retarded, so it doesnt ping. Thats
the thing with computer vehicles is that it isnt just base timing that can
be changed, it can be different ever 100 rpms or so.
