If cost really isn't an issue, the best of both worlds is a ram-air hood.
Most such hoods use an open element filter (10 or 14") with an airbox to
seal them off to the hood. If you think you might want to install a
ram-air hood in the future, you can probably use a 10 or 14 inch round open
element air cleaner with it, so if you buy such a filter now, you'll be
able to re-use it with the hood. A hood will cost anywhere from just under
$400 to over $800, depending on which one you get and who you get it from.
(plus about $200-300 to get it painted)

An open element or cone air filter should give you a tenth or
thereabouts in the 1/4 mile. A ram-air should be good for around 3 tenths.
