Did you feel any more power after removing the cat? Note that just because
the MIL light didn't come on when you fired it up does not mean it doesn't
detect any problems. Here is why:
after my cat back was installed the mil was on. I reset my computer and
fired it. No more MIL. 10 miles later it was back on. The problem was, the
friggen muffler shop did not connect the O2 sensor.

Well I'll do better, I'll tell ya how I did it. I went ahead and decided to
do it since I saw theirs done. My friend's dad runs a sort of general
purpose outside furniture shop that he runs out of an old car garage type
building (I think). point is, he has a hydraulic drive on jack on the side
of the building, a mig welder, and a cutting torch. I jacked my truck up.
Then I took the torch and cut the cat on both sides as close as I could to
the stock welds that hold the cat on. Then I took a piece of 2 1/2 inch pipe
that I bought from a local auto parts store (stainless steel). I brought it
to a local muffler shop and had them put it in a pipe expander to enlarge
the ends to fit over my stock 2 1/2 inch pipe. I then shoved one side on the
end of the pipe coming off my y pipe. Since I have a flowmaster dual cat
back system I did myself, I only have on set of hangers holding the muffler
on, so with the cat cut out I could move the muffler side back and forth
(apparently their is some play in the stock setup because my friend managed
to push the pipe back far enough to get the pipe in-between and then shove
it back together and his exhaust is stock) so I moved it back, put pipe
in-between and then connected the two loose ends to the pipe. I took the mig
welder and welded the two sides and I was done. never messed with the oxygen
sensor, or even got close to it. Just for fun, I started the truck before I
put the pipe in and the engine light didn't come on. after I put the pipe in
and was done, the engine light never came on. I think the sensors a fake
crock of shit just to scare us from removing the cat. Anyway, I'm not
guaranteeing anything because I've only seen it done on a 99, 98, and 97.
Any years before that I don't know. But any of those years, CUT AWAY!!! just
do what I did and don't screw with sensors or anything else.
