Hey Dude,
You say that the temp gauge goes up to about halfway? On my truck (and it's
that hot here everyday), the needle used to just cover the "2" of 210. After
the stat swap, it's well away from the 210. It may just be your OEM gauge.
Maybe not, you may have a coolant system problem which may be causing your
pinging.
