The LSD units in the Dakota's (8.25" Chrysler) use clutch packs. The only
maintenance issues are changing (and using) the correct fluid. I've seen
life spans on the clutch packs from 60K miles up to 120K miles with regular
maintenance. I wouldn't worry about them at all.
