Most receivers are class III, rated at 5000 lbs. Your class IV will be
higher than that. I don't remember what class IV is exactly, but the
frame-mounted hooks are 10,000 lbs.
Of course, most recovery straps are 20,000 lbs, so it's still capable of
yanking the hook off the frame if you're careless.
I use the receiver as well, haven't ever had a problem. I'd probably back
off if either truck was really stuck and wasn't moving with a reasonable
tug, though. The Central Ontario 4x4 club requires tow attachments front
and rear, and receiver hitches count. Just get a recovery strap with the
loops in the end, and put the loop in the receiver and put the pin through
the loop.
