It takes a big man to admit this, but I got spanked last night. First
time. I knew it was coming though, so I didn't mind too much. There is
this tricked out 57 Chev pickup with a nasty idle and 3" pipes rolling
around town. Purple, billet wheels, gear drive, 19 year old driving
(Rick, do you know the truck?). I've seen him around and wanted to see
what it's got, and got the chance. We pull up to a light, and I smile
and give the thumbs up, as it is a nice ride. They smile back and
motion for a race. I oblige. Green. He lights 'em, gets off the gas
then punches it again. I light 'em and keep it planted. 20' of
spinning ain't great for a good start. He gets past me. Next light. I
hold it at 1200 and when green, I give 1/2, spin, step off, punch it
and hook. He punches, lets off, and nails it again. I get him to the
top of second. He's got great top end and passes by my open window at
6000 rpm of almost straight-pipe out the side. LOUD!!! We pull into a
lot and check out our rides. He's got a 350, 280 degree cam, 2.02
heads, 2500 stall TH350, headers, 3" duals, high compression and a
     6000 rpm shift point. I got a K&N 14x3 and 4700 redline :O) I said I
could do low 15s (once I get the 60' down), and he estimates he could
do low 14s. I think he's right. Pretty quick. Where was Mike Catlins
     R/T when I needed it! Even though I lost, I kinda thought I would've,
and they were nice guys, so all was good. They certaintly liked the
R/T, but all they could say was, "Slam it!"
