Not hard at all, really it isnt. I am on my 4th fuel pump assembly(the entire
pump module and sending unit). Trust me when i say this, dont just put a new
sending unit on, fork out the $135 and replace the entire assembly/module. I
dropped the tank once just to replace the sending unit only to have the pump
quit 2 weeks later. Dropping the tank should take about 30 minutes. All there
is to it is disconnecting the gas filler neck and the vent tube and then
removing the 2 steel straps which actually hold the tank to the frame/bed.
Spray the strap bolts 30 minutes before taking them off, this will help them,
come off easier. Try to drop then tank when there is little if any gas in the
tank. Use a hydralic jack to help support the tank when lowering it, the tank
is much more easier to work with when empty. If you want, most radiator shops
will powerclean and degrease the tank for abour $30. Well worth it if you
tank gets as dirty as mine does. Also be sure to pop on a new fuel filter for
$10. Good Luck.
