Subject: Dak stuff to share

Jon,
The rating system on the Dak site is nice! I found hitting the back
button was an easy way to rate multiple departments without reentering
all the dealership info again. Just thought you might want to tell
vistors to hit the back button to rank another department at the same
dealership.

I sent a message a while ago about using synthetic gear lube in my 4x4
Dak, and seeing a 2-3 MPG improvement. That was a bit optimistic! I
believe it is around 1 to 1.5 improvment. I'm getting 17-18 on straight
highway miles. If you shared that info with the list, you might want to
share this new information.

I second what a list member found about not having to remove the exhaust
to get the tranny pan out. On my '96 4x4, I had to remove the front
driveshaft though. I'd recommend trying a couple of times to get it back
in place before cleaning, etc. Also, use a 6-8 dabs of something to hold
the gasket to the case while persuading the pan in place. I wish that
trans cross member was 1/2" farther rearward.

One last bit of info you might want to share with the Dak list. I
changed the plugs to regular Bosch Platinums, and the end result is the
truck appears to to have a little more power (just seems to run better),
and better fuel economy. The original plugs had 15,500 miles on them,
not bad, and seemed to run the same since the day I picked it up. The
Dak gap spec is 0.035", while the Bosch plugs were factory gapped at
0.045". I decided to try 0.040". I thought 0.035" is a little small, and
a couple extra 1000s couldnt' tax the ignition system too much.

Take care, and I like the buyer's list. Those headers look better all
the time!
