There are two parts to the ignition system: primary and secondary.
the primary is your crankshaft position sensor and your pcm.
THe crank sensor determines crankshaft speed and position by detecting marks
on the flywheel. When the mark passes under the sensor it sends a 5volt
signal to the pcm . Between the marks, the voltage is 0.3v.
Since the problem is intermittent, you may just have a signal delivery
problem.
look at the wire harness going to the CPS. check for corrosion or loose
terminals.
start the truck, and wiggle the harness. If the engine misses or stalls,
then theres the prob.
If nothing happens, you'll have to check your voltage delivery system or
replace the CPS. Its alot cheaper than replacing the pcm or the flywheel.
If you still have probs, then it may be the pcm.
