Read a great article about this problem in 4Wheel & Off Road. The smell is
caused by the engine running rich. Some blends of gas are worse offenders
than others (more sulfur added), but the smell is caused by a rich mix
condition. I've noticed the same smell coming from mine. I would guess
that in an effort to reduce all the pinging I seem to be reading a lot about
on the DML (and have noticed in my Dak too), they richened things up a bit
to cool down the cylinder temps. Buick did this for the turbo Regal GNs,
and that's how the just a Hypertech chip could make so much more power in
those cars - they not only advanced the timing, but they leaned things out a
bit too - also made the car run kinda hot.
