The speed sensor is mounted on the side of the transmission, and is a simple
breeze to change. It has a place for the speedo cable to thread into, and
then has an electrical sensor which senses speed for the purposes of cruise
control and OD shifting on the automatics. You can buy the speed sensor for
about $35 or $40 from your local dealer. My '92 has been through 2 speed
sensors in 120K miles, but neither one killed the speedo, just the cruise
control.
