The Vallentine 1 is the best going according to the mag reviews. They aren't
inexpensive (understatement :-)), but consistently have the longest
range/least falses in the tests. It will count the radar sources (great for
urban areas when a cruiser is "hiding" among oher radar sources such as
traffic monitors) and tell you which direction they are coming from which is
a real plus on the highway (no more sneaking up from behind).

Downside is that its a "wired only" unit (no battery option), and its about
the size of 3 packs of cigarettes stacked on top of each other. They have a
"hidden" display kit which relocates all of the indicators to the cigarette
lighter plug so you don't have to worry about the police noticing that you
have a detector at night...

I've had a Solo as well as a Passport 4500, and they are no comparison to
the V1 in terms of range or features. If you can part with the $$$$s, its
the best going...

Craig

Subject: DML: Radar/Laser Detectors - comparisons?

Anyone know of any reviews of Radar/Laser Detectors? Bel says they are
the only ones that have the best. K-40 says all others lie, and theirs are
the best.
Cobra says all others are crooks, and only theirs will work. get it? Any
real world feedback on what actaully works when you unwrap the hype off the
unit and plug it in? What happened to the Calif CHIPS detector? They ran
off the
principal the CHIPS had a short range walkie talkie on their belt that was
always on, and the car radio was the relay for the handheld. The CHIPS
detector
worked on picking up the statewide freq link, and said "Bear nearby".
 Suggestions welcome. Mike
