If the ticking noise is coming a lifter(s), investigate and/or try Marvel
Mystery Oil. It's been around for quite a while and has a reputation
with the older mechanics as being a product that works. Here's part
of an MMLer's email and his experience with it.

It would be an inexpensive way of finding out and should do no harm.
