My Dakota (97 cc v6) will knock with a lower grade of gasoline. When I
started using 92 or 93 octane the knock went away. Also the truck
performs better. They say that the truck will run with 87 octane. it may
but if it don't switch your grade of gas.

If your '99 Dakota is pinging, i'd take it back to the
dealer and have them
take a look before you start changing parts around. It's
better to get to
the root of the problem rather than just hiding it (in this
case with
colder plugs).
