Bernd, here in smoggy L.A., they still smog check some vehicles the old
way (non-dyno) if: AWD or 4WD that can't be dis-engaged, vehicles with
traction control that can't be turned off, and any vehicle with a GVW
over 8600 lbs, and no smog for pre-'74 and newer than 4 years old
('95-up). But DMV can randomly pull you in and check, regardless of year
on your reg. renewal. Be fortunate you don't own a Porsche, when these
get smogged, they have to do it the old way, 'cause when the traction
control engages, the smog machine will go off the scale!! Dak content-
since my Dak is a '97, I won't have to smog it for 2 more years!!
