There have been 3 318s. The first was L a derivative of the 50s hemi. The LA was a completely new engine and the Magnum is the LA with roller cam and different heads and intake.
As for the new 4.7 engine, I would take a wait and see. New anything is a problem so let someone else develop an intimate relation with the dealer. The 318 is a very solid reliable engine that with good care and maintaince should go 200,000 miles or better.
