Brake Problems

The first ABS on/off light is a bulb test. After the bulb test,
the CAB (Controller Anti-lock Brake) turns the lamp on or off
based upon the results of the ABS self-tests. The lamp turning
on the second time indicates that the CAB has detected a system
malfunction and/or that the ABS system has become inoperative.

When you write that the brake lights light up, I assume that
you mean the brake lights in the rear. If you mean the red brake
lamp warning lamp in the dash, this means that the base brake
system is not operating normally.

Suggest that you get your truck to a garage asap. Hope this helps.

The red warning light comes on simultaneously as the abs light. The brakes
are working fine...as far as I can tell. Plus if they do fail, I'll have to
have a serious talk with the dealer for letting me drive off with the
warning light on. I just thought of something looking at the tsm for a Ram.
The brake light switch besides turning the brake lights on (tailights) has a
circuit for the ABS/PCM. I had my brother pull me home about 1 mile when it
went dead. With no power assist I really had to stomp on the brakes to make
sure I didn't rear end him. I wonder if this could have broken the switch
or taken it out of adjustment. I used to have a 88 Chevy truck and the tail
lights (brakes) would stay lit up. I adjusted the plunger on the brake
switch and that took care of it.

Thanks
