If properly aimed, fogs should pick up obstacles (i.e. reflect back to your
eyes)
maybe 25' in front and to the side. Speed has to be reduced in these types of
conditions (snow, fog, heavy/misty rain) for safety reasons.

The driving lights will be reflected back into your eyes by fog and snow and,
to a lesser degree, by rain, making it more difficult to pick up obstacles.

A study done many, many years ago concluded that the most effective fog lights
were the ones with greenish-tinted lenses.
