Noisy 5-speed:

Hello to all;
Recently, I went to the dealership where I purchased my 98 Dakota Sport (5.2/5-speed)...it was the week before I
was to make a trip back to MA. for a weekend get-together with the family, and i was concerned about how noisy
my tranny was under acceleration. The head mechanic went for a ride with me, and after 5 seconds declared that
there wasn't a problem. He explained to me that the new trannys use lighter weight oil, and that the driveshaft is
hollow as well, amplifying any noise in the drivetrain. I was somewhat skeptical, but he assured me that there
was no problem to be concerned about, so...

Off I go on a 400-mile jaunt to Massachusetts...crank it up to 65, 70 mph and what a noise...somewhat reminiscent
of crickets in the backyard on a summer night, or someone lightly pressing a metal blade against a grinding wheel.
Now, I don't think the mechanic would intentionally lie to me about this (they are a 5-star dealership, after all...:-),
but I find it hard to believe that the engineers designed the drivetrain to make this much noise.

Has anyone else had a problem similar to mine? Any advice or insight offered would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Paul Cesario
