I've been following this discussion and i figured i'd adda little "real
world recorded" proof.
I was reading through a R&T about the GM Firebird/Camaro whatever ram-air
vs. normal intake system. They had 2 identical cars, same engine, same
exhaust, same everything except for the intake system and ram-air scoop.
The 2 cars had the same weight as well. So they run these 2 "identical"
down the strip however many times and averaged the results.
Basically the cars were dead even in acceleration until about 40-45 mph
where the ram-air model car began to pull away a little. The effect was
magnified the faster the car went (obviously). So what the end result is
that the 0-60 times were only slightly different but the if my memory is
right the 1/4 was about .4 seconds faster with the ram-air.
Whether or not the car actually had an effective ram-air system or the
increased acceleration was simply due to colder air in the engine bay, the
whole argument is academic because the end result is that the "ram-air" car
is faster.
And that's really the point isn't it?
