Kevin,
I'm located south of you in Northern Virginia. About 2-1/2 years ago they
started emissions testing down here. Its not just a sniffer test, they
actually place your vehicle on a "tread-mill" that loads the engine as if
you were driving down the road.

At the time I had my DAK inspected (two years ago), there were JBA headers,
a K&N FIPK, and I believe a Hi-perf MOPAR computer under the hood. When the
inspector popped the hood, he didn't even bat an eye at the mods. He simple
hooked up his computer and started the test.

While the test was running, he told me that his particular machine was very
tight, and that most vehicles fail the test. When all was said and done,
the DAK passed with flying colors. He stated that it was the cleanest
vehicle he tested.

Do what you think best. Return it to stock, have the test done, then
convert it back. Take it in the way it is and see what happens. Then if it
fails back off the mods and have it re-tested. Or just ask the inspector
ahead of time, if there is any problem running the test with your mods.
Hope this helps. Let us know how you make out.

Rich - Ashburn, VA
P.S. I will have several additional mods on the truck by my next inspection,
and I'm going in with everything in place. It makes me feel particularly
good knowing I have improved my power, economy and efficiency, and still
pass the mandated emissions test.

This message goes out to the Mass and California DMLers. I did a homemade
K&N air intake mod. Have any of you had problems passing the STRICT
emissions standards no being enforced??

Anyone have any solutions to PASSING these tests, considering I have a
HIGH-FLOW K&N filter on my Dak.

Thanks in advance dudes

Kevin
