I installed the Hypertech Power Tuning Module Part # 972300 Revision B
on Friday afternoon. I now have about 75 miles on the new setup.
This is for the 1997 5.2 Auto/Manual Dakota.
Installation was a breeze. The claim for the Hypertech is 20 Horsepower and
30 ftlbs of torque. There is a marked increase in Horsepower but I have no
way
to determine if it is 20 or not. But I'll tell you that the increase in
torque is
there. No doubt. My Dak will burn the 255R70X15's right off the rims.
The torque increase seems to be right off an idle all the way to redline.
Another benefit I noticed is it smoothed out the engine. No more flat spots.
Seems to start faster also. Throttle response is amazing.
Problems. There are a few. The Hypertech demands 93 Octane fuel. I have
always run 93 octane from date of delivery. But I picked up some detonation
right away. Not bad, but you could certainly notice it. I was concerned that
with any load in the bed it would get worse. I had Champion Gold Truck Plugs
in the truck. Today I changed them to Champion Copper Plus one heat range
colder. So far, this seems to have completely cured the problem. I can't be
sure for a while yet. If it comes back, I will use some octane booster with
each
tank of gas. Small price to pay for the terrific benefits.
The "Check Engine" light came on today. I tried to pull the codes but the
scan
tools showed no codes to see. The light went out by itself after about 1
hour of
driving. I noticed no problems with truck performance while the light was on.
I am satisfied with the Hypertech setup. I believe I got what they
advertised.
Really lit a fire in those tailpipes.
The other modifications to the engine (before the Hypertech install) were:
K&N FIPK, Borg Warner Brass Cap & Rotor, Accel 8mm Wires, 180 Thermostat,
Flowmaster 2-Chamber CatBack Duals.
