Very good points in this post Flip. I also imagine a Formula 1 or Indy car
is not the most comfortable car to drive either. But they are kick ass
performers also. If you want comfort, get a luxury car. Not a Viper or
Vette.

And first off let me say how pleased I am that I managed to start a thread
called "Damn Texans!", and have it last this long :)
It isn't really fair to compare a Vette to a Viper, they are designed for
totally different purposes. The Viper was designed to be a bad-ass driving
machine. That's it. It wasn't designed for comfort, for spending long
hours on the road, or for refinement. It is a brute of a car, and it isn't
for everyone. It's unfortunate that the people who would get the most
enjoyment of it (like me!), can't afford it. I read Bob Lutz'
autobiography, and he describes the designing of the Viper. He makes it
clear that they decided early on, no compromises! Just performance.
I believe the Vette was originally designed as a performance vehicle also,
but that has long since been compromised in turning it into a comfortable
ride with all the conveniences that people expect of their vehicle. Dennis,
you made that clear yourself when you referred to yours as a "Cadillac" of a
Corvette. This doesn't mean I don't like Vettes. I do like them,
especially the '60s models. I may well own a Vette someday, since a person
can pick up a used Vette
pretty reasonable, and I will probably never be able to afford a Viper.
But I'd rather have a Viper, because that's the kind of girl I am :)
