Yep. Unfortunately, sales for Plymouth cars have fallen from 750,000
in '73 when Petty's blue RR gave Plymouth the muscle car mystique to
last year's sales of 307,000. The bean counters rule now-a-days though.
As a spokesman for J.D. Powers & Associates (rated the Dakota this year
as the best compact truck) said, "The company said it was to save money
but that's a lot of trouble to go through to save a few pennies."

The company tried to turn around sales 3 years ago with the Breeze and
the Prowler and an intensive marketing bliz aimed at the 20-40 year-old
crowd. Sales for the Breeze were down 10% this year; embarassing in
a market that's up 10%. Sales of the Neon and Voyageur were also off
more than 8%.

Dodge has its own version of the Breeze, the Stratus, and its own Neon.
(outside the U.S.A., Neons are sold under the Chrysler brand). The Chrysler
upscale version (read more profitable) of the Breeze is the
Cirrus.
