Yeah, most of them run off magnets on the spokes, some even use several sets
of magnets. I used the Sigma BC800 bike computer and it runs off just any
plain ol' magnet. I went to RadioShack and got some tiny (1/8"x1/16") rare
earth magnets and epoxied them to my rim, then epoxied the sensor to the
disc brake caliper so that the magnets come within about 1/4" of the sensor.
I've had it on since June with no problems :-)
