Is everybody out there driving with an egg under their gas pedal, or am I
just lead-footed? I'm reading 20mpg from a 318?? My 99 CC auto gets an honest
12 at the pump, O/H computer says 12.1-.2 average( down to 10.9 in winter),
and 19-22 varying "right now" mpg @ 60mph with cruise on. If I do only city
back & forth, then I get about 11.2 at the pump. Best tankful yet in a year
has been 13.57. Now I use the formula which gives the most accurate reading:
Fill up with 1/8 tank to go, note gas price & amount of gallons purchased.
Set trip odometer to zeros.
Drive down to the same 1/8 tank level, refill with the same price & gallons
of gas, and divide the # of gallons bought the 2nd time into the miles driven
on the odometer. That's the true mpg of your last tank! Try it, I guarantee
you'll wonder where all your great mileage has gone! Anyways, as long as I
get 10mpg from a killer truck then I'm happy. That's all my Barracuda ever
got, and it won 8 trophies in 5 years as a daily driver. I was happy with
that. My truck's won 1 so far, so I'm happy with it at anything over 10mpg.
