OUCH!
Not to drag this out too much, but this is were dads can be really, really
cool... I figured there was no sense in telling mom what happened 'cause she
would just say, "Go tell your father.", so I decided to face the music
directly. With bowed head I tell him the story and we go out and check out the
damage. "Yep", he says, "Flattened it pretty good didn't you". Not knowing
what to say, I say yes and ask if I should go get mom to show her what
happened. Incredibly he says, "No, just go get the keys to her car". He puts
her car away and later that evening he casually asks my mom, "Honey, when did
you get that dent in your car?". After much confusion she goes running out to
the garage with me and my old man in tow. Bewildered and upset my mom doesn't
know what to say and my dad just stands there shaking his head saying how
terrible it was that somebody would clip her car like that in the parking lot
and not leave a note! There isn't a Hollywood actor known to man that could
have pulled it off as smoothly as he did! Later that week we got her car into
a shop and had everything repaired good as new.
Needless to say I split a lot of wood and added a bunch of yards to the rock
wall that summer... All with a smile on my face! :-)
