Poor Gas Mileage

sorry long, but informative...

I have a '99 Dak 318 4x4 auto CC that has always got pretty low gas
mileage
so through performance mods and such my goal was to increase performance

and MPG at the same time. Well after doing TB, cold air intake,
headers, catback,
ignition, electric fan, and synthetic oil, my performance went up quite
abit :)
however from day one (when the truck was new) my gas mileage has never
ever
changed. Always around 14MPG or so (lots of highway), even with all the
mods.
Now this always bothered me that the mileage has never changed.

Today I spoke with a former Dodge engineer about this problem. He
stated
that the reason some Dak's get 17-20MPG and others get 11-14MPG
(or anywhere in between) is a serious mismatch problem between the
computer and the O2 sensor. Which is why Dodge has lowered the MPG
numbers on the 97-99 Daks ever year they wre produced. He said the
problem
seems to occur in about 1 out of every 10 Dak's or so. Seems that the
O2 sensor
is not putting out the correct signal to tell the computer to lean out
the engine enough
for good MPG.

Yikes, I said sounds like mine. What can I do? He said you can test
the O2 sensor
and make sure the voltage range output is between 0.0 to 1.0 Volts and
not something
like 0.2 to 0.8. He said getting an O2 sensor to work good is key to
helping the problem.

Can I take it in for warranty repair? No he said, Dodge dealer will say
your mileage and
O2 sensor readings are in spec. You will most likely have to buy one
aftermarket,
and then bitch at Dodge reps for good measure.

comments??? added info from anyone????

Ja
