Basically, you replace the stock pulley(s) with lighter ones so that the
engine doesn't have to work as hard to turn them.
Similar to putting lighter/smaller tires on, any vehicle will go faster with
lighter wheel/tires.
Example: tie a small rock to the end of a string and spin it around, then
tie a bigger rock and spin. It's a lot harder to spin the heavier one BUT
it has more inertia so it spins longer.
Little bit of physics 101 for ya.
