Quite true. However, for the Total Harmonic Distortion that is
typically spec'ed, below about .3%, the human ear/brain is hard-pressed
to hear any better sound (or, said better, the brain "masks" anything
below that level so that they're all perceived as equal). Levels of
non-harmonic distortion are more sensitive, but that's rarely spec'ed to
the consumer.

This all holds true until the equipment begins clipping the signal, then
the distortion levels go through the roof (and the non-harmonic
distortion becomes a greater percentage of THD), and this is where
you'll hear significant differences in gear of differing quality.

But, .000003% is not always better than .3%.
