The 904 IS the "faster "tranny. It is more efficient than the 727. The 727
is, however, the stronger of the two. Small blocks typically go with the 904,
while big blocks need the beef of the 727. Some guys try and gamble and go
with the 904 in order to faster. It can take a lot when properly built, but
it's no 727.
