Sounds like total BS to me. Some manufacturers keys come with this little
"chip" right on the key that does what the mechanic told you but to my
knowledge Dodge trucks have never had this feature.
Mine's a 2000 Dak and i know for a fact in doesn't have this feature and it
wasn't an option that the salesguy told me about. (And i got almost every
otion on the truck i could).
You can be 100% sure of this fact that your keys don't have this feature:
Tear the rubber/vinyl wrapper that the key is coated in right off. No
little "chip" than you have your answer.
Also all of the keys that i have seen with this feature, the chip is quite
visible.
Tell the guy where to go, and head down the road to the next shop to get the
starter installed,
