I think NHRA just banned the practice, but for a awhile all the really HOT
FWD cars were running wheelie bars. At first everybody thought it was a
really stupid parodie of a prostreeter. Then it became clear what some
were trying to do. The wheelie bars were set up so that underpower and
weight transfer the car would tilt back on to the wheelie bar and lift the
rear tires right off the ground. Now the car is riding on a long skinny
wheelie bar and the front tires only. The lifting of the rear tires had
the effect of transferring weight back to the fronts. The bars were very
long and set right against the ground. When NHRA figured it out they kinda
freaked (at least that's what I heard from a tech guy).

| Nope, they keep all 4 tires under power.
| They have what are called "anti-lift kits" so that the car remains pretty
| level under acceleration, keeping all 4 wheels planted.
| A lot of the time the owner has already upgraded his suspension so that
the
| struts/springs are really stiff anyway, so the kits don't even have much
| work to do.
| I was the one that satrted this thread, and it was directed at 4x4 Daks,
not
| AWD cars. It's a completely different setup between a 4x4 and an AWD
| system.
| And i still want to see somebody with a 5speed 4x4 run the quarter with
4x4
| engaged. :)
