Re: Gas Out

I remembered the total tax in California for gas to be about 34 cents.
When I heard 64 cents it didn't fit the "model". I did some digging.

Check out http://www.lmoga.com/taxrates.htm for a list of all state gas
taxes.

The Fed Tax is 18.4 cents everywhere.
California adds another 18 cents.
I was shocked to find that Nevada and Texas were higher! My friends in
those two state are always telling me I need to move out of the Socialist
Republic of California.

The truckers asking for a subsidy will make the sheiks richer. OPEC will
price what the market will bear. With a subsidy, the market will bear
more. I know it doesn't make sense to most, but that's the way it is.

BTW-I got a response back arguing in favor of the Gas Out. My question for
the person was this, "If not buying gas for those three days hurts the
Sheiks, then how come buying MORE on the day before and the day after
doesn't help the Sheiks by an equal amount. What do the Sheiks care? You
haven't changed demand. You've only created an inconvenience for the
station operator and the local distributors.

How about a National Car Pool Day? Truck Pool? The point is don't offset
your purchases, lower your purchases.
