Contrary to popular belief when the air brakes fail on a truck, the truck
does not go out of control. THe air holds the brakes open, stopping them
from locking up. When it loses air pressure the wheels lockup in a hurry.
That is why when A semi hits his parking brake there is a very loud
air-release noise. The air is being let out of the chamber, and the wheels
are locking. This is also a pain for tow truck drivers. If a semi is
having air system problems they have to manually jack open the brakes in
order to tow the truck.. This is not fun either...
