   I did a similar experiment on my Dak. I put maybe 100 miles on the
truck, checking the computer readout and the temp sensor at various points,
and my results sound like the same as yours. (Inside the manifold is much
warmer.) When I installed the MPI, I put my IAT in the knockout in my air
cleaner. I haven't had a check engine light or anything. The only thing
with that setup is that It does sort've make me uncomfortable thinking
about what would happen if that nut ever worked loose. I've got some
loctite on it, and so far so good...
