Soft covers provide little security. I did, however,
rig up a system that sets my factory alarm off if
someone tries to open my tailgate. I bought a brake
light switch that was used in older chevys. I mounted
this switch on the bed with the button facing the
tailgate and ran wires to the door switch that turns
on the interior lights. when the tailgate is closed,
the button is depressed. when the tailgate is opened,
the button releases, setting the alarm off (when the
alarm is set). This does not do much to keep someone
from stealing stuff from your bed but it may make him
or her not want to stay around
