Yep, these guys got it right (mostly). The reason lies in that reverse
is not equipped with a synchro. I've driven plenty of manuals from
5-ton trucks to VW's, and none of them had a synchro in reverse. Hell,
some of the big trucks don't even have 1st gear synchro'd!
