Just a few comments:

A few years ago, MT (or maybe it was C&D) did a test of radar and laser
detectors, and looked at ways of defeating laser. Turns out that massive
amounts of invisible IR light can temporarily confuse the laser. The
authors of the article mounted some high-intensity driving lights to the
front of the test car and put filters on those lights and the headlights.
The filters only let invisible IR light through, so it looked as if the
lights were off. Secondly, they had a another filter that they placed over
the license plate - this filter would not 'reflect' laser, but would still
allow a clear view of the license plate. With these mods, they succeeded in
confusing laser long enough for the laser detector to go off and for them to
slow down before the laser could get an accurate reading on them. So, the
point is - laser is NOT undefeatable. I think shortly thereafter, some of
these mods were made illegal ;-)

Personally, I have a little Uniden detector that I got at Wally World for
~$90 about seven years ago. I chose this detector because, again, one of
the magazines had one of their comprehensive radar detector tests, and this
unit beat all other detectors under $300, and it was the only one that was
totally invisible to the detector detector. It's saved me enough times to
more than pay for itself =)
