Intake manifold - ping solution?

While discussing my pinging, my father mentioned that he thought there
was a TSB on an intake manifold leak on the 318s that could be the
solution to pinging problems. If I take my truck in for this,
could/should I have them install the MPI intake while they've got
everything torn apart? Would I have to run higher-octane gas with the
MPI?
