'99 clutch fan removal

Hi All,

I am getting ready to install my ASP crank pulley and can't remember
how to get the fan blades (and shroud) off. The DML site is down so I
can't access the archives.
If I remember correctly, I'm supposed to loosen up a couple bolts on the
clutch fan and wedge a screwdriver between the blades and clutch
assembly while loosening the 34 mm nut. If this is correct, I don't see how
wedging a screwdriver is going to help. I can get the same effect by just
holding the blades ... which doesn't hold the nut.
If anyone can offer some insight, please do so before I take a sawz-all
and cut a slice on the bottom of the shroud and spread it around the fan.

TIA,
Chuck Robbins
