You got that right. I'll take mechanical engagement anyday of the week! Ford
Exploders use the push button mechanism and after going through a puddle up to
the hubs the whole system shorted out. 4wd was shot, overdrive on-off was
shot, lighter and auxiliary power socket was shot... It took over three months
to diagnose and fix the short! I didn't really care about the lighter and
overdrive but going through part of the winter without 4wd really sucked.

Nope, you can keep your fancy buttons --I'll take my mechanical system thank
you very much!

I think i speak for several 4x4'ers on the list:
I like the feeling of the lever, and knowing that the t-case has definitely
been engaged. I don't like the idea of a button for the same reason--your
hand doesn't feel a thing when you push that little button. I'm sure the
button system is nice and smooth, and works well, but the point is that
there are probably many more electrical lines involved in the new system,
and generally it's much more complicated. Therefore, there are many more
parts that can be damaged or outright fail.
As i speak (i think) for the other hardcore 4x4'ers on the DML, the lever
style transfer case should stay for those of us that enjoy the mud, and
rocks, small streams, and waterfalls. :)
