What do you mean the "stock" wire is 10"? the wire going from the amp to
the ground is 10"? or the ground wire near the battery?
Also, you said that you got your dremel out and shaved off some paint, so I
believe that you're hitting a really good ground. (watch out, I drilled a
hole through the cab before and bolted a ground to find out it really
sucked, because the cab was kinda isolated by the rubber body mounts?) so I
went psycho and attached a wire from the frame to the cab and no probs to
date.
I don't think that's your prob tho. Maybe the amp is defective. If you
have any other friend's system you can briefly hook the setup up to, I'd try
that out. Thumps like that are generally from ground noise (through the
RCAs) -speaking of RCAs, don't those bazookas use a "non" remote turn on
lead? I remember it just picks up the frequency in the line drives to
activate the amp. maybe that unit is faulty..?

PS. watch out if you're buying a speed grille. it doesn't sit flush with
the back of the grille, but it is protruded out.. just something to look
into before buying! hopefully, I WILL have more pictures of the whole truck
soom...
