No offenses taken Choung, but I was also a 16 year old kid that was paying
off his motorcycle with a evening job at Jack-In-The-Box at one point. From
growing up in the Ranch & Orchards area of San Jose, CA (now Cupertino)...I
had to earn just about everything I wanted...Motorcycle, Car, and had to pay
rent at my own parents home when I turned 17. Thank to my parents, I
learned the meaning of saving money and not just getting it handed to me on
a silver spoon. I used to see those kids that were referenced in the
previous post all the time in Saratoga, Los Gatos (very Ritzy part of town),
and even at my High School, and they pull up to you in their 320i
Convertibles, VW Jetta's, and Corvettes for a 16th Birthday present. Does
this make them any better, HELL NO. Those parents who do this for their
kids aren't doing them any favors by buying them everything they want,
they're removing the one thing that they'll never learn in life...the
meaning of a decent days work or what "Earning a living" really means. I
teach my kids how to save money and they're only 7 and 8. If they learn it
now, they'll be one step ahead of those other kids that get everything
handed to them.

Look at it this way, blowing their door off either in a speed competition,
show, or stereo competition is more fulfilling than trying to be like them.
It just goes to prove that working for something really does pay off in the
long run.

As for the mods, I set aside a few dollars every paycheck in a savings
account which is my "Dakota Truck Slush Fund". This is aside from my kids
college funds and the other "liabilities" of being divorced and remarried.
(Thanks for the comment but i'm far from any type of genius, I just like to
tear things down and find ways to improve them...sometimes they work and
other times they don't.)

My stereo ran me a little but under $1000 and there's times where I really
wonder if I should have spent that extra bit for the higher end stuff. But
ya know what, I like what I have and am happy with it...and you should be
too. :)

I've also set off my share of car alarms in the parking garages...and still
do it today. My theory in life - If you want to understand the kids,
sometimes you have to act like one. It works!

Regards,

- Bernd

Subject: DML: was: not to own lightening now:MORALITY,

While you are right about most 16 year old kids being punks and not paying
for their own vechiles, I actually found that very annoying.

I was 15 when my parents got me my truck. They downed 1/2 of it, but I held
up 2 (during school) and 3 (during the summer) jobs to pay it off. I
actually got a break at almost the end of 16, because a lady rear ended me,
and I was able to use most of the money to pay off my truck, but I've worked
my ass off for my truck. For you to come in here and say that really annoys
me.

Sure. I spend a lot of cash on my stereo. (actually, for what it is, I did
a hell of a good job) I Dumped a total of abou 1,500 bucks into it,
including ALL the amps, cd players, and components. I haven't bought
anything for the stereo in a while, because it was just another thing the
dakota should have, and that's.... JUST ME.

If you're talking about dumping all their cash flow into their vehicles
(sorry bernd) but BERND has had the most mods of all. The man's a genius,
and just because he is like you guys and concentrate on going fast or saving
gas, instead of cruising around town, setting off car alarms from sine waves
he doesn't get dogged?

I have contributed a lot to the list, and I plan to keep on doing so. I like
the people on here, but let's keep our unneeded remarks to ourselves. It
might not seem hurtful to you, but it might to others. Flaming wastes
bandwidth. Save it for people who need help. MAYBE in installing their own
speed grille, or what's wrong with their SAS bazooka bass tube?

I have to agree, most
of the R/T's in this area, at least the ones I have seen, are driven by high
school punks! It makes me sick to my stomach everytime I see one. I work
40-60 hours a week to pay rent and a truck note. Then, you see some 16yrold
drive up in a brand new one acting a fool makeing us all look bad! And you
know he isn't paying for it!!! Or even working.. just driving his truck
around on his dad's gas money. If he does work, he spends all his money on
the stereo! (sorry for the rant, but it pisses me off!)
I reallllllllllllly wanted to get an R/T back in 98 and t
