We basically do have mandatory service, it's just on a "as needed" bases...it's called a draft. Remember during the Vietnam War all of the people who had to go fight for there country whether they wanted to or not? Every male needs to send in a draft card at age 18. If the government wants equal rights for everyone, why don't women have to register for the draft?

Why would you want a similar mandatory service like Switzerland?

I believe that is what the U.S. should have.....Mandatory service. But that
is just my opinion and I probably shouldn't have even mentioned it.

alex your stats have big holes. In Switzerland every man between the ages
of 17 and 47 belongs to there equivalent of the National Guard(this is
mandatory) and is issued a semi-auto rifle and is only used for official
use. So your comparison of crime stats is very flawed.
